My Take
My husband just opened the American Express® Business Gold Card this year, because of the elevated offer.
Here's what makes it interesting for business owners: the 4x earning structure is genuinely flexible. Instead of being locked into specific categories, it automatically adjusts to reward your top two spending categories each billing cycle from 6 eligible options — U.S. media advertising, U.S. electronic goods retailers and software, U.S. restaurants, travel, U.S. gas stations and EV charging, and transit purchases. The 4x rate applies to the first $150,000 in combined purchases across those two categories each calendar year, then drops to 1x. If your business spending shifts month to month, this card adapts with you. That's a smart earning structure for business owners whose expenses aren't always predictable.
The $375 annual fee is easier to swallow than the Business Platinum, and the card now comes with a genuinely strong lineup of statement credits: up to $240/year at FedEx (through 10/01/2026), Grubhub, and U.S. Office Supply stores ($20/month, enrollment required), up to $300/year on ChatGPT Business purchases (enrollment required), up to $150/year with Squarespace (enrollment required), and up to $12.95/month toward a Walmart+ membership (enrollment required). If you'll realistically use even two of these, the annual fee essentially pays for itself — but as always, credits you don't use are just money left on the table.
One thing worth knowing: business cards like this one don't count toward your 5/24 status, which makes them a smart way to keep earning welcome offers without burning a Chase slot. And unlike the personal Amex cards, you can open the business versions in any order that makes sense for you.
If you're a business owner sitting on an elevated offer for this card, it's absolutely worth a serious look.
