My Take

The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card just got a meaningful upgrade — and it was already one of my favorite entry points into the Delta card lineup.

The $0 intro annual fee in year one makes it easy to try without a lot of risk, and the benefits are genuinely practical for families who fly Delta even a few times a year. Let's start with the bags: you now get your first bag free on Delta flights worldwide AND a second bag free on domestic flights. On a round-trip family trip, that's real money back in your pocket before you even board.

The $120 Rideshare Credit is a welcome addition — $10 back per month after your first Card renewal when you use the card for U.S. rideshare purchases with select providers. Enrollment required. If you're already using rideshare regularly, that credit alone gets you most of the way to covering the $150 annual fee after year one.

Add in the $100 Delta Stays credit for prepaid hotel bookings through Delta Stays on delta.com, the 15% discount when redeeming miles for award travel on Delta flights, and the $200 Delta Flight Credit after $10,000 in purchases, and this card stacks up a lot of practical value without asking you to fly constantly to earn it.

My recommendation: if you fly Delta a few times a year, the Gold is where I'd start. The intro annual fee makes year one a no-brainer, and between the bags and the rideshare credit, year two tends to take care of itself too.
