Chase Freedom Flex®
Chase Freedom Flex®
Annual fee: $0
Current welcome offer
Limited Time Offer! Earn a $250 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening
My Take
This is a card we hold and will always keep in our wallets. It's easy to overlook once the welcome bonus is long gone, but the Chase Freedom Flex® earns its keep every single quarter if you stay on top of activating the rotating categories. Max out the $1,500 quarterly cap at 5% and you're looking at an extra 7,500 points per quarter — that's enough on its own for a free night at Hyatt. Multiply that across a year of staying active with it, and it quietly becomes one of the best "keeper" cards in a Chase Ultimate Rewards strategy, filling the gaps between chasing new welcome offers on other cards. If you already hold any Sapphire card or an Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, pairing it with the Freedom Flex is one of the easiest ways to boost your points without opening anything new.

Is This Card Right For You?
✓ Best for
Anyone who consistently activates and tracks Chase's rotating 5% categories
Chase Ultimate Rewards card holders who want to boost their points-earning power
Dining and drugstore spenders who want a reliable 3% rate outside the rotating categories
Families who want a no-annual-fee card that also works well for international travel
✗ Not ideal for
Anyone who doesn't want to remember to activate categories each quarter
Big spenders who'll blow past the $1,500 quarterly cap on bonus categories quickly
Those who want a simple flat-rate card with no activation steps (Quicksilver or a Chase Freedom Unlimited® would fit better)
Offer History
The Freedom Flex's welcome bonus held steady at $200 after $500 spend in 3 months from April 2023 before temporarily increasing to $250 in 2026. Its best-ever version ran from December 2022 to September 2024, when Chase paired that same $200/$500 bonus with an extra 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (excluding Walmart and Target) up to $12,000 spent during the first year — a meaningful add-on that hasn't reappeared since. Chase has occasionally run in-branch-exclusive offers with a similar 5% first-year grocery-and-gas bonus, so it's worth checking for a branch-specific version if you're timing an application.
