Pirate Cruise Fort Myers Review

Looking for things to do in Fort Myers Beach? Or how about things to do in Fort Myers with kids? Well, Ahoy, me hearties and welcome aboard! Today’s post is all about our experience on the Salty Sam’s All Ages Pirate Cruise setting sail from Salty Sam’s Marina in Fort Myers Beach.

If you have ever sat on the beaches of Fort Myers, it’s likely you have seen a pretty authentic looking pirate ship replica sail by not far from shore. We have been coming to Ft. Myers Beach for years and have always wanted to check out the pirate cruise. With 3 boys I can’t believe we didn’t do it sooner!

Our family was provided with complimentary passes for the Pirate Cruise, however all opinions you find here are always my own.

Where does the Pirate Cruise Fort Myers leave from?

The 65 foot pirate ship replica named “Pieces of Eight,” sets sail from Salty Sam’s Marina which is located at 2500 Main Street, Fort Myers Beach, FL. It is in the same marina where the Key West Express boards.

The 90 minute cruise will make its way out of the harbor and then sail along Fort Myers Beach past Lani Kai Resort until it’s time to turn around and make their way back to the marina.

Pirate gear and souvenirs can be purchased in the gift shop and on board, but you can save a few dollars by purchasing an upgraded child’s souvenir package that includes their boarding pass. It really does make for a fun experience for the kids and a really cute photo op.

Pirate Ship Fort Myers Family Photo

As your family boards the pirate ship you can pose for a photo op right in front of “Pieces of Eight.” Photos will then be printed and can be purchased on board for, I believe, $5. My kids were too eager to board and ran straight past the photographer. After finding out the photos were only $5 I wish I had stopped them!

Pirate Cruise Fort Myers Beach Food and Drink

I was pleasantly surprised to see how affordable the drinks were in the galley! For just $5 you can purchase a souvenir mug filled with soda and then get free refills for the remainder of the cruise. Also available for purchase you will find juice, bottled water, slushies, chips, mixed drinks, and canned beer and hard seltzer.

And if you didn’t purchase a pirate sword ahead of time, you can grab one for $5 at the bar. They accept both cash and credit cards.

Lots of Pirate Themed Fun

Your 90 minute cruise will be jam packed with plenty of pirate themed fun for parents and kids! Kids will get a lesson in talking like a pirate, learn how to hop on their “peg leg,” have a go at limbo, and get to practice a little bit of sword fighting with their friends and siblings. There is also a good amount of seating on the main deck for adults to sit close by and watch their kiddos as they join in the fun.

Pirate Ship Fort Myers Tattoos!

As we boarded Pieces of Eight, we saw some of the kids getting their face painted by the crew. But if you don’t board in time, don’t worry because midway through our cruise, kids (and even some adults) had another opportunity to get a scar or pirate sword tattoo.

Pirate Cruise Fort Myers Treasure Hunt

One of the fun activities aboard the Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruise is the hunt for hidden treasure aboard the ship. Kids are awarded pieces of treasure throughout the cruise for different games but the real treasure is found at the end when the treasure chest is discovered and each little pirate gets to take home a scroll and a necklace.

Pirate Ship Fort Myers Humor!

If you you’re a parent thinking that the Florida Pirate Cruise is just for kids, think again. When they say “All Ages” they mean it. The crew had us laughing out loud with jokes that clearly went over the kids’ heads but kept us all entertained.

Tips for Visiting the Pirate Cruise Fort Myers Beach

  • Wear sunscreen, sunglasses (link to my favorite pair), or a hat (link to my “vacation hat”). The Florida sun is brutal and you’ll be exposed everywhere on the ship except inside the galley.
  • Plan to arrive 45 minutes prior to departure. Boarding begins 30 minutes prior to your departure time.
  • Bring cash to tip the crew. They really do a great job so be sure to say “thanks.”
  • Book online ahead of time to ensure you have a spot on the cruise time you want.
  • Have your kids sit on the lower deck so they are more inclined to participate. They’ll have more fun that way!
  • Grab a bite to eat at Parrot Key when you get back. We were given coupons for half price kids meals when we checked in for our cruise so kids meals were just $3!
  • Make a stop at Pelican’s Snoballs on your way back to the mainland for a cold sweet treat. It’s just down the street and it’s one of the 12 Kid Friendly things to do in Fort Myers that you’ll find in this post.
