Everything You Need to Know About the New Business Card from Chase

If you’re a small business owner who loves travel perks, flexible rewards, and premium benefits, Chase has just dropped something exciting: the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business. It’s a high-end business credit card designed to bring all the luxuries of the personal Sapphire Reserve to entrepreneurs and business travelers. But is it worth the hefty annual fee? Let’s dive into what this card offers, who it’s for, and whether it might be the next must-have in your wallet.

  • Primary rental car insurance: Decline the rental company’s collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to your card. Coverage is primary when renting for business purposes and provides reimbursement up to $75,000 for theft and collision damage for most rental vehicles in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Baggage delay insurance: Reimburses you for essential purchases like toiletries and clothing for baggage delays over six hours by passenger carrier up to $100 a day for up to five days.
  • Lost luggage reimbursement: Provides reimbursement up to $3,000 per covered traveler for the cost to repair or replace checked or carry-on baggage that is lost, damaged or stolen during a covered trip.
  • Emergency Evacuation and Transportation: If you or a covered traveler are injured or become sick during a trip 100 miles or more from home that results in an emergency evacuation, you can be covered for medical services and transportation up to $100,000.

Cost

The Sapphire Reserve for Business comes with a steep $795 annual fee. To justify the cost, you’ll need to make an effort to maximize the card’s various perks and benefits. If you do take full advantage of them, the value can exceed the fee.

That said, not everyone will want to go through the hassle, which is completely understandable, especially when Chase offers no-annual-fee business cards with generous welcome bonuses and much lower spending requirements. If you’re new to points and miles, I recommend starting with one of the Chase Ink Business cards before considering this one.

Eligibility

Since this is a new card from Chase, almost everyone should be eligible to apply. Applicants will likely need to be under 5/24 in order to qualify and have some sort of small business or side hustle.

Remember, getting approved for a business card is not as difficult as you might think! Check out this post on all of the ways to qualify that you may not have thought of!

Transfer Partners

Probably the most valuable feature of any Chase Sapphire card is the extensive list of Chase transfer partners. Just by having one of the cards in the Sapphire family opens you up to the ability to transfer your points to airline and hotel loyalty programs at a 1:1 ratio. If you have followed me for any length of time, you have probably heard me talk about transferring our Chase points to Hyatt. THIS is the primary reason we keep at least one of these cards open at all times.

Since Chase is the only major bank program that transfers to Hyatt, and Hyatt is one of the BEST points and miles sweet spots for getting huge value for your points, I suggest always keeping one of these cards around.

Here is a complete list of Chase transfer partners:

How to Redeem Points

Redeeming points with the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business is easy and flexible. Whether you’re booking travel through Chase Travel℠, transferring points to travel partners, or redeeming for cash back or gift cards, you’ll have no shortage of options for putting your points to good use.

Here’s a quick look at the kind of value you would get for 200,000 bonus points after spending $30,000 on purchases within the first six months:

Cash back: worth $2,000

Hotel, flights, rental cards or activities booked in the bank travel portal (kind of like Expedia): worth $2,000

Transfer points to travel partners like Hyatt, JetBlue, Virgin Atlantic and more: value varies, but upwards of $4,000-$6,000

Category Earning Rates

With the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business, you’ll earn points on every purchase you make, with bonus points available in select categories.

  • 8x points on all purchases through Chase Travel℠, including The Edit℠
  • 5x points on Lyft rides through 9/30/27
  • 4x points on flights & hotels booked direct
  • 3x points on social media & search engine advertising
  • 1x point on all other purchases.

Unique Features

The Sapphire Reserve for Business offers two credit line options: Pay in Full and Flex for Business. While the Pay in Full balance is due each month, the Flex for Business balance allows you to spread payments over time with interest.*

Purchases are initially applied to your Flex for Business balance until you reach its limit. After that, any new purchases will shift to your Pay in Full balance.

Is This Card For You?

I think it depends! It’s definitely not the first business card I would recommend if you’re just getting started. But if you already have the other Chase Ink cards, can meet the $30,000 minimum spend in 6 months, and will make the effort to use all of the credits to recoup the $795 annual fee, I think it could at least be worth having for the first year. 200,000 Chase points are extremely valuable so if you meet the criteria above, this may be a winner for you!
