A Few Things You Should Know About Disney World’s Minnie Vans

As you start to plan your Disney vacation, you may be considering what options are available for travel within the “World.” If you’re staying at a Disney resort, you know that there is always the option to take Disney provided shuttle buses to and from the parks each day. And of course there’s always Uber and Lyft if you want a private ride. But another option to keep in mind is Disney’s own personal shuttle service with that adorably appointed name. MINNIE VANS!!

I have never personally used the Minnie Van service (because I like free better), but I have been doing some research just in case we decide to use one in a pinch one day. Not to mention that the name of this blog and my love for Disney makes this post feel like a necessity.

And in my search I’ve learned so much that I didn’t know and thought would be helpful to share. So here is my extensive list of all the things you should know about Disney World’s Minnie Vans.

A Few Things You Should Know About Minnie Vans

What Are Minnie Vans?

Minnie Vans are an upgraded Disney transportation experience that involves point to point private transfer for guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. They operate anywhere on Disney property and also offer airport transfer by reservation. The current fleet of Minnie Vans is made up of Chevy Suburbans and can accommodate up to 6 passengers.

Who Drives Minnie Vans?

Minnie Van drivers are official Disney cast members that have the same background checks and excellent customer service training as the Disney employees you encounter in the parks and resorts.

Do Minnie Vans Have Car Seats?

Yes! They all have 2 Graco 4Ever car seats available should you need them (as opposed to most Uber and Lyft drivers who will only have 1 at most and could come at an additional cost). Minnie Van drivers are even officially trained in proper carseat installation so that you don’t have to worry about installing a car seat you’ve never used before.

The carseats can also be used as booster seats for bigger children.

How Early Do Minnie Vans Run?

The Minnie Van service is typically available from 6:30 am – 12:30 am daily.

How Do You Order a Minnie Van?

To reserve a ride on Disney property you will use the Lyft app. Just make sure you have the app downloaded and an account set up before your trip. Just open the app anywhere on Disney property to access Minnie Van service. The app will tell you how much your ride will cost before you request your car and you’ll pay for everything right on the app.

TIP: I highly suggest using a Chase Sapphire Reserve as your method of payment! With the new card benefits introduced in 2020, you will now get 10x points on all Lyft rides (normally 3x) and 15% off during your free one year membership to Lyft Pink.

Can You Book A Minnie Van in Advance?

At this time a Minnie Van cannot be booked ahead of time. But when you are ready to be picked up you can log on to the Lyft app and request pickup.

It would be safe to request a pickup 20-30 minutes before you need it. Your wait time will likely be 15 minutes or less, but during busy times, like park closing, waits can be longer.

How Much Will a Minnie Van Ride Cost?

The cost of your ride is now based on distance traveled (used to be a flat fee). An average ride will cost around $30-$45. While that may seem like a lot to pay for an entire week’s worth of shuttle rides, it could be well worth the cost once or twice when you’re in a hurry or the line for Disney buses is crazy long and your kids have just had it at the end of the day.

Should You Tip a Minnie Van Driver?

At the end of the ride, you have the option to tip your driver through the Lyft app. You could also offer a cash tip if you felt you received excellent service (I have read about guests being given an extra fastpass during their ride, which is above and beyond). But really it’s up to your discretion, and a tip is not required or expected.

Where do Minnie Vans Drop you off?

Minnie Vans have the same access to drop off locations as Disney buses. This is especially important at Magic Kingdom where buses can drop off right outside of the park gates. All other driving services (Uber, traditional Lyft, taxi) will drop off at the Transportation Center which then requires either a Ferry Boat ride or a Monorail ride to the main gates of Magic Kingdom. Something to keep in mind if you are running late for a reservation at Magic Kingdom.

Do Minnie Vans Pick Up and Drop Off at Disney Springs Hotels?

Yes! You do not need to be staying at a Disney Hotel to use the Minnie Van service, but you do need to be staying on Disney property (ie, Disney Good Neighbor Hotels, Dolphin, Swan, etc.).

Can I Take a Minnie Van to and from the Airport?

Minnie Vans do provide airport shuttle service if you are staying at a resort on Disney property (including all Disney good neighbor hotels). This ride cannot be reserved on the Lyft app. You will need to call at least 24 hours in advance.

It also carries a hefty price tag of $155 each way (not including gratuity). You can fit up to 3 carseats and up to 6 medium sized suitcases in the trunk.

To make a reservation call (407) WDW-PLAY at least 24 hours in advance.
